Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors have been the workhorse of security systems for decades, detecting heat signatures associated with movement.

However, their limitations, such as susceptibility to nuisance alarms triggered by pets or environmental changes, are well documented. 

The pioneering dual-zone detection system, introduced with the TAKEX MS-12FE, ushered a new standard in reliability.

This detection principle incorporates horizontal and downward zones, requiring simultaneous activation to trigger an alarm.

Infrared Beams: See through the noise 

Active infrared beams are used to detect intrusions between two points; they work by sending an invisible light signal from one point to another.

Imagine the beam from a flashlight shining in the dark, but instead of visible light, it uses infrared light that we can’t see. 

On the other side, a receiver picks up this light signal. If something, like a person walking through the beam, blocks the signal, the receiver knows something is wrong and triggers an alarm.  

However, other light sources, like sunlight or even vehicle headlights, can interfere with the signal and cause nuisance alarms.

To prevent this, TAKEX adds a special double modulated pattern to the signal, like a secret handshake, making it easier for the receiver to identify. 

Before checking the signal, the receiver cleans it up, like removing static from a radio.

It then checks to make sure the signal has the correct handshake and adjusts itself for optimal performance. 

Creating an impenetrable line of invisible protection, infrared beams can be deployed as standalone perimeter intruder detection systems, or to compliment CCTV as part of a layered security system, providing first-line, real-time event signalling regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

False alarms pose significant challenges for security systems, often leading to wasted resources, loss of credibility, and unnecessary disruptions.

Using sophisticated algorithms and advanced signal processing techniques such as Dual-zone detection and double modulation, TAKEX sensors can accurately distinguish between genuine threats and benign activities, enhancing the effectiveness of security operations while minimising false alarm fatigue among installers and end-users.
