Corero Network Security, a specialist provider of real-time, high-performance, automatic Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Protection has announced a new deal.

Gigaclear, the UK’s leading rural, full fibre broadband provider, has selected Corero Network Security to deliver DDoS Protection as a Service, across its network, protecting customers from attacks and service downtime.

Founded in 2010, Gigaclear’s ultrafast broadband fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network stretches across central and southern England, where there is a need for better broadband funded largely through commercial investment.

Its growing, state-of-the-art network reaches more than 320,000 homes and businesses in more than 650 communities, across 23 counties.

When it comes to DDoS attacks, Gigaclear understands the potential threat to its customers, and how cyber-attacks can wreak havoc on any business in a matter of seconds.

By implementing Corero’s next generation SmartWall DDoS solution, Gigaclear gains visibility of mitigated attacks and is equipped with detailed insights into key aspects of the incidents including target, size and duration, via online dashboards.

Corero’s CEO, Lionel Chmilewsky commented; “We are extremely proud to be supporting Gigaclear in their vision of network expansion and commitment to high-bandwidth, low-latency quality, by ensuring they are able to prevent internet service downtime caused by DDoS attack.”

Gordon Perry, CIO at Gigaclear added; “As our company grows and matures, we feel it is necessary and prudent to increase our protection from the growing threat landscape including potential DDoS attacks against our infrastructure or our customers.

“Downtime is not something we’re willing to accept, and with the Corero solution, we feel we have the best protection in the industry from a company that can grow and scale with us.”

“Our previous DDOS solution didn’t give us the visibility or control that Corero now brings,” said Gabriel Yepes, Head of Networks at Gigaclear.

“With Corero, we now have many more capabilities at our disposal to respond against attacks. From the dashboards and reports we now get from the Corero solution, we can see that it is blocking on average between 80 to 100 DDoS attacks a month and we expect this number to grow as we continue to expand our customer base.”

For Gigaclear, robust DDoS protection increases customer satisfaction, which ultimately helps the company’s bottom line.

Yepes continued, “Best in class DDoS protection from Corero helps us sustain the best possible customer experience through the delivery of a consistent and reliable online service.”

Gigaclear designs, builds and operates a full fibre, ultrafast broadband network in rural areas across central and southern England.
