Hirsch UK and TDSI: Uniting for a smarter security future

Richard Huison, Managing Director at Hirsch UK, explains how uniting Harper Chalice, TDSi and Hirsch under one brand is creating a more integrated, scalable security ecosystem.

Can you tell us about your journey in the security industry and how it began?

I am a seasoned security industry professional with over 26 years of experience spanning defence, commercial integration and manufacturing.

My career began with a defence contractor, specialising in cybersecurity, encryption and secure communications within high-assurance environments.

Building on this strong technical foundation, I transitioned into the commercial security sector on the integrator side, gaining extensive experience delivering tailored security solutions to a diverse range of clients.

An opportunity to move into security manufacturing in 2000 marked a defining point in my career and it is where I have spent the majority of the past two and a half decades.

In the UK, the journey to a united Hirsch has brought together Harper Chalice, TDSi and Hirsch under one global identity. What has this meant for the UK business?

The move to a united Hirsch identity has been transformational for the UK business.

Bringing together Harper Chalice, TDSi and Hirsch under one brand has allowed us to move from operating as strong individual entities to functioning as a single, aligned organisation with a shared vision, strategy and culture.

For the UK specifically, this has created greater clarity in our market positioning and a more cohesive internal structure.

We now operate with a newly defined UK team that brings together expertise from across the legacy brands, creating a stronger leadership framework and clearer accountability.

This has streamlined decision-making, improved collaboration and enabled us to respond to customer and partner needs more efficiently.

A key part of this evolution is the closer alignment of TDSi with Hirsch.

Today, it is very much TDSi by Hirsch, reflecting both the strength of the TDSi brand in the UK and its growing integration within the wider global organisation.

That alignment will continue to deepen, something already visible at The Security Event this month, where TDSi solutions are presented under the Hirsch banner as part of a single, cohesive portfolio.

The unified structure has also expanded our product offering in the UK.

Customers now benefit from a broader, integrated portfolio spanning high-security perimeter detection, advanced access control and enterprise-level security management.

Ultimately, the united Hirsch identity ensures the UK business reflects the wider global transformation, combining local expertise with international scale, investment and long-term strategic direction.

What opportunities has this global alignment created that perhaps weren’t possible before?

The alignment has created opportunities that simply weren’t possible when we operated as separate businesses. Previously, each brand had its own product focus, development roadmap and go-to-market approach.

While successful individually, there were natural limits to scale, integration and international reach.

As a unified Hirsch organisation, we can now offer a far broader and more cohesive security ecosystem.

In the UK, this means we’re no longer confined to individual product categories.

Instead, we can engage earlier in major projects, particularly in critical infrastructure, government and enterprise environments where clients are looking for integrated, high-assurance solutions rather than standalone systems.

The expanded portfolio also enables us to cross-leverage innovation.

Technologies developed globally can be introduced into the UK market more quickly, while UK expertise feeds back into the wider organisation.

This two-way alignment helps accelerate product development and ensures we remain competitive in a rapidly evolving security landscape.

Internally, the newly defined UK team structure has also allowed us to operate more strategically, with clearer focus on growth sectors and partner enablement.

In short, alignment has moved us from strong individual players to part of a globally coordinated security provider with far greater reach and capability.

Hirsch has decades of experience protecting high-security and mission-critical environments. How does that heritage shape the way the business operates today?

Hirsch’s heritage in protecting high-security and mission-critical environments is not just part of our history; it continues to shape how we operate today.

For decades, our technologies have been deployed across government, defence, critical infrastructure and other environments where failure is not an option.

That legacy has created a culture centred on resilience, reliability and long-term performance.

In the UK, this heritage informs both our mindset and operational standards.

We design, deliver and support solutions with a strong focus on robustness, cybersecurity, compliance and lifecycle value.

It’s not about short-term wins, but about building trusted relationships and systems that perform consistently in demanding conditions.

That experience also guides how we approach our expanding portfolio.

As we align with global innovation, we apply the same high-assurance principles across access control, perimeter detection and integrated security management.

Our newly defined UK team reflects this approach, combining deep technical expertise with sector knowledge to ensure global solutions are delivered with local understanding.

Ultimately, our heritage gives customers confidence.

It anchors our global transformation in proven performance, ensuring that as Hirsch evolves, the core values of trust, security and engineering excellence remain central to everything we do.

Bringing together separate organisations often means blending different cultures. How would you describe the integration journey so far?

Bringing together Harper Chalice, TDSi and Hirsch has naturally involved more than structural change; it has required thoughtful cultural integration.

Each organisation had its own identity, history and strengths and it was important that we respected that legacy while building something stronger and more unified.

The journey so far has been focused on alignment; we have worked to identify the shared values that already existed across the businesses, such as engineering integrity, customer focus and long-term partnership and use those as the foundation of a single Hirsch culture.

At the same time, we have introduced clearer global frameworks around governance, communication and strategic direction to ensure consistency and transparency.

In the UK, the newly defined team has played a key role in this transition.

By streamlining operations and clarifying roles, we have reduced complexity and created greater accountability, which has helped teams collaborate more effectively.

Open communication has been central to the process, ensuring that employees understand not only what is changing, but why.

Overall, the integration has strengthened us.

We are retaining the depth of experience from each legacy organisation while benefiting from the scale, investment and shared ambition of a globally aligned Hirsch.

How do you see the demand for fully integrated security solutions evolving in the coming years?

Demand for fully integrated security solutions will continue to accelerate in the coming years, driven by increasing complexity, evolving threats and the growing convergence of physical and cybersecurity.

Organisations are moving away from siloed systems towards unified platforms that provide greater visibility, intelligence and control across multiple layers of protection.

In the UK market, we are seeing stronger emphasis on resilience, compliance and operational efficiency.

End users want solutions that not only secure their assets but also integrate seamlessly with IT infrastructure, data analytics and wider operational technology.

The expectation is no longer standalone access control or perimeter detection, but a cohesive ecosystem that delivers actionable insight and supports informed decision-making.

This shift aligns closely with Hirsch’s strengths.

Our expanded global portfolio allows us to deliver integrated solutions spanning high-assurance access control, perimeter intrusion detection and enterprise-level management platforms.

Global alignment ensures innovation is scalable, while the newly structured UK team enables us to deliver these capabilities with local expertise and responsiveness.

Looking ahead, integration will not simply be a preference, it will be a requirement.

Customers will prioritise partners that offer secure, scalable and future-ready platforms backed by long-term commitment and proven performance.

Can you share a success story that demonstrates the strength of your integrated approach within one of your key sectors?

Across sectors such as critical infrastructure, utilities and government, our approach centres on delivering security as a cohesive, layered ecosystem rather than a collection of standalone systems.

These environments require high-assurance protection across both the perimeter and internal access points, alongside seamless interoperability with existing technologies.

Our strength lies in how our access control and perimeter intrusion detection solutions work together within a unified architecture.

Rather than operating in isolation, they share intelligence, enabling a more coordinated and informed response to potential threats.

This enhances situational awareness and supports faster, more effective decision-making.

At the core of this approach is the Velocity Central platform, which acts as a central command layer.

It connects multiple Hirsch security platforms while also integrating with a wide range of third-party systems.

This open, flexible architecture ensures customers are not locked into rigid configurations, allowing solutions to be tailored to the operational, regulatory and risk requirements of each site.

Looking ahead, what excites you most about the future of Hirsch?

What excites me most about the future of Hirsch is the strength of the foundation we are building and the clarity of direction we now have as a globally aligned organisation.

We are no longer operating as separate entities with parallel ambitions.

We are moving forward as one brand, with a shared strategy, a broader portfolio and the scale to compete at the highest levels of the security market.

In the UK, the newly defined team and streamlined operations give us the structure and agility to capitalise on that global momentum.

We have the right expertise in place, clearer accountability and a stronger connection to global innovation.

That combination enables us to bring advanced technologies to market more effectively and to support our partners and end users with greater consistency.

I am particularly excited by the opportunity to further develop our integrated security ecosystem.
