The King’s Cross estate in London has achieved In-Use certification to the SABRE security risk management standard.
It is the first facility to do so since the SABRE scheme became a partnership-led initiative between the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and The Security Institute.
King’s Cross, owned by the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership (KCCLP) and managed by Argent, is one of the largest and most successful urban redevelopments in London.
Over the past 20 years, the 67-acre neighbourhood has been transformed bringing new streets, public squares and parkland, over 1,120 new homes, as well as shops, offices, galleries, bars, restaurants, schools, and even a university.
Today, King’s Cross is a thriving destination for the local community, Londoners and visitors from further afield.
The assessment of the estate’s security infrastructure, led by SABRE Licensed Company Design Security Limited, resulted in a SABRE Rating of ‘Excellent’.
Gareth Hulmes, Head of SABRE for The Security Institute, said: “We are delighted to see the King’s Cross estate receive SABRE In-Use certification. This achievement is testament to the commitment King’s Cross has to managing security risk and providing a welcoming environment for businesses and visitors alike.
“People rightly expect security to be a material factor in the management and operations of public spaces, as was evident in the recent Government response to the Protect Duty consultation. Independent third-party certification with BRE is a fitting way for King’s Cross to evidence its dedication to this important issue.”
Gilbert Yule, Estate and Customer Service Lead for King’s Cross, on behalf of KCCLP, said: “King’s Cross is one of the largest mixed-use schemes in London, welcoming a diverse community of residents, workers, students and visitors every day. To be the first destination to receive the SABRE In-use certificate, jointly operated by The Security Institute and BRE Group, is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the team’s focus on ensuring the safety and security of all our customers, residents and visitors. I would like to add my thanks to the whole King’s Cross team for the time and effort invested into this project.”
Chris Jones, Head of Security at Kings Cross Estate said: “We are delighted to have achieved a SABRE rating of excellent at King’s Cross. The award recognises our commitment to creating a safe environment for all who live or visit the estate.
“The continued support and collaboration across the King’s Cross team has been critical to delivering this level of security operation for which we are extremely grateful. Given the impending introduction of ‘Protect Duty’, this award demonstrates our continuing commitment to all aspects of security at King’s Cross”.
