Passengers at London Gatwick no longer need to remove electrical items or put liquids in plastic bags at security.
The installation of a new computed tomography (CT) scanner, provided by Smiths Detection, is said to enhance security accuracy at Gatwick.
With 3D technology transforming the security screening process, all 19 lanes have been updated.
As part of a multi-million-pound project the government initiative aims to simplify and streamline the security process, whilst maintaining security and safety standards.
The new technology is said to not only be more efficient, but also more sustainable, with the necessity of plastic bags within the screening process, becoming obsolete.
Cyrus Dana, Head of Security, London Gatwick said: “More than 95% of passengers already pass through security at London Gatwick in under five minutes.
“This is a positive change, with the scanners allowing our passengers to travel through the airport with more ease.
