Pinnacle Systems has announced that it has successfully partnered with Amulet to centralise safety and security monitoring at London Zoo.

The company notes that this marks a significant step in modernising the zoo’s infrastructure while preserving its unique and historic character.

ZSL modernisation project

London Zoo, located in Regent’s Park and is a vital hub for wildlife conservation.

The zoo spans across 36 acres and is nearly 200 years old which has led to complex challenges for infrastructure updates due to its age and varied equipment.

Zoological Society of London (ZSL) stated that it has embarked on a project to upgrade its fire, security and building management systems as part of a long-term modernisation plan.

“The project has certainly been a success”

Kelly Wessell, Resilience Manager, ZSL Security commented: “The Pinnacle team have been a pleasure to work with, they have been supportive throughout the project, the system is user friendly and with support from our security partner Amulet for install, the project has certainly been a success!

“I’m excited to continue working with Pinnacle as we take on the rest of the ZSL project utilising this unique one platform approach,” Wessell concluded.

Focus

The company notes that the central focus was the integration and centralisation of the zoo’s fire alarm systems, which were previously outdated and inadequate for the estate.

By choosing Pinnacle Systems’ open integration platform, London Zoo has connected its fire alarm panels and upgraded its CCTV system.

The integration between Pinnacle Systems and London Zoo has enabled real-time mapping of fire alarms, custom text alerts and public address (PA) messaging for rapid response and improved compliance with safety regulations.

The partnership

The company states that the success of this partnership was made possible through the collaboration between Pinnacle and Amulet.

Amulet states that it has a long-standing relationship with London Zoo, which has allowed the company to tailor its approach to meet the zoo’s specific needs.

The company highlights that the success of the project at London Zoo has paved the way for its expansion to ZSL’s sister site, Whipsnade Zoo.

Installing Pinnacles platform

Installation of Pinnacle’s platform has already commenced, integrating fire alarm monitoring alongside a CCTV upgrade.

Future plans include adding building management system (BMS) alarms, lift alarms, disabled refuge alerts and temperature monitoring to safeguard animal welfare within enclosures.

“Easy to use and adaptable for the future”

Ric Martin, CEO of Pinnacle Systems, concluded: “Partnering with ZSL and Amulet has been an important opportunity.

“At Pinnacle, our goal is to make complex security systems easy to use and adaptable for the future.

“By providing a scalable and user-friendly solution, we’re helping ensure safety and efficiency at these iconic sites while supporting ZSL’s vital conservation work,” Martin concluded.
