Security’s biggest names on show at Intersec 2022

December 22, 2021

Security Journal UK hears from three of the leading vendors exhibiting at Intersec 2022.

With the eyes of the global security industry now firmly fixed on Intersec 2022, Security Journal UK caught up with three of the biggest exhibitors at January’s show to find out what visitors can expect to see from them and why Intersec plays such a crucial role in the security calendar.

Unified rather than integrated

For some time now, there has been talk of the increased need for integration within security. Disparate systems such as video surveillance, access control and intruder detection should be working together to provide increased convenience for the user. However, at Intersec 2022, Genetec will be promoting an alternative way of doing things; Unification.

Firas Jadalla, Regional Director for META at Genetec explains more: “This year, we’re concentrating on raising awareness about the strategic advantages of a comprehensive physical security solution. A unified physical security platform is made up of a suite of products built as a single unit, whereas an integrated physical security platform is made up of links. It means you can turn various systems on and off, but you can’t break connections because none exist.

“If one connection fails within an integrated physical security platform, it can affect all of the others. The more connections you have when connecting systems, the more expensive and complicated updates and maintenance become. A unified solution is designed from the ground up to aggregate all of the data you collect, allowing you to set security policies, monitor occurrences and conduct investigations with ease.”

Some of the solutions that will be showcased by Genetec include Mission Control, a decision management system that helps the user understand unfolding events and quickly identify the best course of action. It simplifies the response coordination between stakeholders, speeding up incident resolution.

Also on show will be Security Center Restricted Security Area (RSA) Surveillance which brings together different detection and tracking devices under a single visualisation pane. Moving targets are automatically tracked on geographical maps and intuitively displayed so that security personnel can assess and respond to threats in less time.

Jadalla details how Intersec provides Genetec with an opportunity to learn about the latest trends in the market as well as demonstrate its cutting-edge solutions: “Genetec is pleased to be exhibiting at Intersec 2022, where we will be showing far more than just our products and services. While participating in other exhibitions is crucial in understanding the general technology landscape, our participation in Intersec helps us position ourselves within the regional security sector amongst our stakeholders and our competitors.

“The event is a learning opportunity that allows us to understand the market’s demands alongside the gaps that Genetec solutions could fill. Intersec is the perfect opportunity to really delve into the region’s offerings and better understand the market.”

The rise of AI

In almost every security sector, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is beginning to be utilised to increase the speed and accuracy of security technology. AI has the potential to be a true game-changer in the fields of video surveillance, perimeter protection and cybersecurity to name just a few.

The real-world benefits of AI will be on display at Teledyne FLIR’s stand at Intersec 2022, with the company showcasing its state-of-the-art radars and thermal cameras. One of the products on show will be the FLIR Triton FH-Series ID.

These are ruggedised, multispectral fixed cameras that integrate leading <30 mk sensitivity thermal imaging with 4K visible imaging to provide reliable intruder detection capabilities for perimeter security. Built-in convolutional neural network (CNN) analytics accurately detect, classify and geolocate threats, improving situational awareness, minimising false alarms and daily operations costs.

Custom programming enables security operators to set intrusion analytics to run on visible streams or on thermal streams based on schedule or illumination levels, establishing optimised coverage for any lighting condition.

Nikitas Koutsourais, Regional Sales and Business Development EMEA at Teledyne FLIR said: “These fixed, multi-sensor cameras are revolutionary in the way that they deploy Artificial Intelligence in the thermal images, as well as the 4K visible images, it enables best possible target identification making maximum benefit of the level of light available, also the FH series and our radars including the new R-series, provide our customers with a unique mapped and tracked solution that relies on both radar and camera sensors to geolocate and follow threats.”

He continued: “AI is a significantly growing trend in security and is having a remarkable impact on perimeter solutions. It is replacing conventional analytics for all types of applications, including detection and target classification. Manufacturers such as Teledyne FLIR will look to continually improve the efficiency of their solutions and AI will play a huge role in this, so I expect its use to grow exponentially.”

According to Koutsourais, exhibiting at Intersec enables Teledyne FLIR to continue to grow its footprint in the Middle East region: “The Middle East is incredibly important to Teledyne FLIR, we have a very good team in our Dubai office and a growing business. We are looking to keep this trend going as well, as we improve and grow, Intersec can help us to do that.

“It’s one of the most important exhibitions worldwide for us and certainly one that we wouldn’t miss. It enables us to better understand our market due to the high quality of people that attend the show. You can begin conversations at Intersec which turn into real projects and long-lasting business relationships. Many important customers in the Middle East region attend Intersec which leads to an outstanding level of business discussions taking place.”

The new normal

Due to COVID-19, it is almost two years since the last Intersec took place and there is no doubt that the world has changed significantly in that time. Within this “New Normal”, the use of video surveillance has also developed, with the technology helping to enforce health and safety regulations as well as protect against security threats.

James Soonjae Hong, Head of Asia-Pacific Sales at Hanwha Techwin commented: “The world has been turned on its head by the pandemic, COVID-19 is now a part of our everyday life. It has changed many of our daily habits with mask wearing and social distancing now the new normal for everybody.

“Organisations have had to embrace the requirement for contactless and automated systems to detect those individuals not wearing face masks or with elevated body temperatures for example. Manufacturers such as Hanwha Techwin have launched a number of state-of-the-art solutions which have helped with the COVID-19 response effort.”

The use of AI has been integral to the success of Hanwha Techwin’s COVID-19 solutions and the technology will be playing a central role in the company’s Intersec showcase as well. Hong revealed: “The key theme of our Intersec 2022 appearance is definitely AI. We are in a leadership position for AI in the video surveillance industry with our technology being some of the very best available.

“We are making continued investment in AI technology, including the establishment of an AI Lab in South Korea. AI is transforming the entire surveillance industry, with the quality of the solutions it is enabling us to create. It plays a huge role in video analytics and will only get bigger over the next few years.”

Hong and the rest of the Hanwha Techwin team are looking forward to displaying their new range of products at Intersec 2022: “I think that Intersec stands out from the other exhibitions. Exhibitors have the opportunity to meet lots of new potential customers and partners, including end users, government officers, distributors, system integrators plus many more.

“This attracts all of the largest manufacturers in the world to Intersec which makes it even more special. Intersec is the perfect place to connect with industry peers and share expertise which will shape the future of video surveillance.”

Bringing the industry together

Intersec 2022 will run from 16-18 January at the Dubai World Trade Centre and brings together thousands of the industry’s most powerful stakeholders for bilateral government and business discussions on mitigating and addressing vulnerabilities of the future. They are joined by leading regional and international brands exhibiting the most innovative systems and solutions in a dynamic environment that enables face-to-face exchange through interactive roundtables, workshops and ‘closed-door’ confidential conversations.

The 23rd edition of the flagship event, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has the theme of ‘Uniting the world’s leading industry specialists for the safety and security of future generations.’
