Rethinking access control in a hybrid world

Stuart Wheeler, Managing Director, Keynetics highlights the power of its SentriGuard access and key management solution.

Can you tell us more about the key management solutions you provide?

At present, our most sought-after solution is SentriGuard.

It’s a smart key management system that combines certified commercial-grade security key safes with the latest cloud software platform for remote access management and the app for access.

I believe the success of SentriGuard lies in its ability to bridge the gap between traditional keyholding and fully digital access control solutions.

Many organisations are not ready to remove physical keys entirely, but they do want more control and visibility.

SentriGuard provides that through full auditability, scalability and secure tech for both managing access and retrieving keys from the vault. Physical security is also a major differentiator.

The key vaults have been attack-tested and certified to LPS 1175 C1 and C3 ratings.

For clients with stringent security requirements, including government departments and financial institutions, that level of certification provides real reassurance.

How do your access control systems help clients reduce costs and improve efficiency?

We have learned that priorities vary across sectors, but there are several consistent benefits.

A major improvement is faster alarm response. There is no need to wait for a specific keyholding patrol.

The nearest available patrol can attend immediately, which makes a real difference operationally.

Another key benefit is enabling controlled after-hours access for service providers, contractors and reactive maintenance engineers.

Missed visits are reduced, associated charges are avoided and keys do not go missing.

This also eliminates the expense and disruption of key and lock replacements.

Vacant and void properties are another common application, where inspections and service delivery often depend on keys changing hands.

SentriGuard streamlines access, provides a clear audit trail and can be easily redeployed to another location once a project is complete.

When it comes to site access specifically, how valuable is your SentriGuard solution?

SentriGuard is fundamentally about improving site access.

It reduces the cost of traditional keyholding and removes the time and expense involved in physically transferring keys between individuals.

Keys remain securely stored on site and every authorised access is recorded on the platform, creating a transparent audit trail.

Importantly, SentriGuard does not require hardwiring or internet connectivity.

Installation is straightforward and the vault can be relocated quickly if needed.

It operates on a long-life battery and uses Bluetooth for app communication.

These features make it a practical and cost-effective, transforming keyholding processes without major infrastructure changes.

What will you be showcasing at The Security Event next month?

This year, our focus at The Security Event is very much on SentriGuard.

Of course, we will be demonstrating the system, but for us the event is really about conversation.

It is an opportunity to reconnect with partners in the security and facilities management sectors, speak with existing clients and meet new faces.

We look forward to speaking with visitors from different sectors, understanding their keyholding challenges and sharing real-world use cases.
