A leading roof light maker has renewed its membership with the official police security initiative, Secured by Design (SBD).
Coventry-based Brett Martin Daylight Systems offers a wide range of solutions for the roofing and panel glazing markets, each one specifically designed to enhance people’s living and working environment.
SBD is owned by the UK Police Service and works to improve the security of buildings and their immediate surroundings using products such as doors, windows, locks, walling systems, fencing systems, and many more security related products.
Backing from SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
With over one million homes built to SBD standards, witnessing reductions in crime of up to 87%, it plays a hugely significant role in the process of designing out crime by good design. As a result, sustainable reductions in crime have been witnessed each and every year.
Following vigorous product testing and auditing by an accredited third-party organisation, Brett Martin has achieved Secured by Design’s Police Preferred Specification (PPS) on its impressive product range. This consists of the Flat Glass Rooflight, Glass Link Rooflight, and Mardome Trade Polycarbonate Rooflight, all of which are certified to meet the enhanced security requirements of PAS 24:2016.
For over 30 years, Secured by Design’s product-based accreditation scheme – the Police Preferred Specification has and continues to provide a recognised standard for all security related products that can both deter and reduce crime. SBD work alongside a range of manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and up to date with emerging criminal trends.
Paul Smith, Head of Product Development at Brett Martin Daylight Systems said: “We are proud to continue our partnership with Secured by Design. Holding SBD approval for our standard fixed Flat Glass and Glass Link rooflights, and specific configurations of our Mardome Trade polycarbonate rooflights demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of homeowners who want to be assured that they can experience the benefits of high-quality overhead daylighting while remaining confident of the security of their home.”
Brett Martin Daylight System’s unique passion for delivering the next generation of efficient systems and solutions is highly complimented by its dedicated efforts to enable its customers, to reduce their carbon footprint and save money on unnecessary artificial lighting.
With more than 60 years of experience Brett Martin Daylight Systems demonstrates an impressive rooflight portfolio consisting of the most extensive range of precision engineered rooflights available from a single source. It boasts an impressive record of involvement within the rooflighting industry, supplying over 700,000m² of rooflights every year.
Ruari Robertson, Development Officer at Secured by Design commented: “I am thrilled that Brett Martin Daylight Systems has renewed for a further three years. It demonstrates the credibility and value of being valued members of Secured by Design and I look forward to working with them during this time in building stronger links between each company”.
Brett Martin Daylight System’s Flat Glass rooflight is the most recent addition to the modular rooflight range, providing high-quality, flat glass rooflight features at competitive prices, with some variants delivered in as little as 48 hours from ordering.
Designed with both building owner and installer in mind, and to cater for a large and growing trend for flat-roofed home extensions that require light and open-plan living, the Flat Glass Rooflight is able to quickly and confidently bring stylish daylight to transform all types of spaces.
Similarly, its Glass Link rooflight is a system of versatile, elegantly designed, factory-glazed rooflight modules that simply lap together to form continuous rooflights of unlimited length, maximising daylight through large-glazed areas and minimal framework.
With the safety and security of homes and crime prevention of paramount importance, Brett Martin Daylight System’s Mardome Trade SBD option rooflight conceals individual fixings inside security caps, making them extremely difficult to access and will ensure a high-level of rooflight security on a diverse range of projects.
Secured by Design was established over 30 years ago and works with many partner organisations ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, right through to local authorities, housing associations, architects, developers and manufacturers. SBD also maintains close links with standards authorities and certification bodies to ensure it remains up to date with emerging criminal trends.
By working closely with builders, developers, local authorities and registered housing associations to incorporate their police crime prevention standards from the initial concept and design, right through to construction and completion. Police forces throughout the UK have specially trained Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) who offer police designing out crime and Secured by Design advice free of charge.
There are currently many hundreds of SBD member companies producing thousands of attack resistant crime prevention products across 30 different crime categories.
