The Last Word With…Clark Door

Andrew Ashley, Managing Director at Clark Door tells SJUK about the company’s impressive legacy and how it stands out in the market.

Can you tell me about Clark Door’s journey in the security industry?

We were approached by architects and clients who already knew Clark Door’s reputation in high-performance fire and acoustic doors.

With a long history of engineering custom solutions for complex environments, the move into certified security doors was something our talented R&D team embraced.

Strategically recognised the increasing global demand for highly optimised and engineered solutions in critical infrastructures, such as clients in defence, data and public-sector environments.

Clark Door has a 150-year heritage – how does that legacy influence the way the business operates today?

Our 150-year heritage is the cornerstone of who we are.

The company has always strived for engineering excellence and quality, having been founded in 1873 in the USA and establishing UK operations over 50 years ago.

Innovation, quality and trust is in the DNA of our company.

Each decade has brought a new transformation from our industrial expansion in the 1950s to opening our Carlisle HQ in the UK and more recently, launching international offices in the Middle East (2022) and re-entering North America with a New York base (2024).

That legacy installs a deep sense of responsibility in our team to uphold a culture of engineering excellence that’s been built over generations.

What sets Clark Door apart from others in the industry?

With a global presence spanning more than 50 countries, supported by international offices, we are trusted by clients around the world.

Our commitment to excellence has earned us prestigious accolades such as The King’s Award for Innovation (2023) and recognition for our patented Multigard product.

Every solution we provide is custom engineered to meet the specific requirements of each project in consultation with architects, engineers, consultants and end users.

Our doors often combine fire, acoustic and security performance in one certified solution and that’s no small feat.

Our state-of-the-art R&D facility enables ongoing testing, development and certification, ensuring we stay at the forefront of industry standards.

We are proud to have built strong, lasting relationships with world-renowned clients including iconic buildings such as the National Gallery or Royal Opera House in London and outstanding companies in their fields be that Tech, Film or Data Centres.

What new innovations are on the horizon for Clark Door?

Our engineering team welcome a new challenge every day.

As well as integrated multi-performance door systems offering security, fire and acoustic protection in one seamless solution, customers are approaching us for our SR5 roller shutter to be even bigger (>12 metres wide), more wind resistant and even blast resistant.

We’re also investing in advanced testing capabilities, sustainability-focused materials and digital integration for smarter facility management.

Our global expansion is also opening up new market insights that inform product evolution.

At Clark Door, we believe in pushing boundaries, not chasing trends.

The next chapter is about scaling that mindset and applying it to the evolving needs of secure, sustainable and future-ready environments.
