Training changes announced for front line SIA licences

It has recently been confirmed by the Security Industry Authority that in April and October 2021 there will be changes to required training for those seeking front line SIA licences.

Training changes confirmed by SIA

On April 1 2021 – the SIA will introduce updated qualifications for all sectors except close protection

From April 1 2021 – you must have a first aid qualification before you can take the training required for a door supervisor or security guard licence

On October 1 2021 – the SIA will introduce updated close protection qualifications

From October 1 2021 – you must have one of the new qualifications or take top-up training before you can apply for a door supervisor and security guard licence – this includes renewals

The SIA confirmed that these changes are taking place to ensure that people working in the private security industry can: continue to keep the public safe; follow new working practices; understand recent changes to the law; make the best use of new technology.

The following requirements have also been newly confirmed: first aid training; top-up training.
