UKCMA Vice Chair appointment to focus on protecting people

Daniel Blackwood, Founder and Managing Director of ResponSec Ltd, has been appointed as one of the new Vice Chairs of the UK Crowd Management Association (UKCMA), bringing more than 20 years of frontline experience to the UK’s leading industry body.

Announced at the association’s AGM, Blackwood is said to have joined the board at a time of change, with new members helping to shape the future direction of an organisation widely respected for setting standards in crowd management in the UK.

From the ground up

Starting his career as a door supervisor, Blackwood has reportedly built his reputation from the ground up, going on to found ResponSec in 2011.

The company now delivers security and crowd management services across major events, venues and transport networks, supporting clients including London Stadium, Brentford FC, Twickenham Stadium and large-scale event organisers including LS Events, Krankbrother, Brockwell Summer Series and IMG.

“This appointment means a great deal”

Blackwood said: “Having spent most of my career on the frontline, this appointment means a great deal

“I’ve seen first-hand how much the industry has evolved, and how important it is that the people delivering safety and security on the ground are represented in the conversations shaping its future.”

Supporting frontline staff

In his role as Vice Chair, Blackwood will reportedly focus on supporting frontline staff – the officers and stewards responsible for delivering safe events.

Blackwood continued: “Without frontline teams, none of us can operate.

“They’re working long hours in demanding environments, and we need to make sure they’re properly supported, trained and recognised.”

“No Guard Alone”

According to ResponSec Ltd, Blackwood will also support industry collaboration and initiatives focused on welfare, including work with the International Professional Security Association (IPSA) and other industry bodies.

He is also said to be supporting the development of the “No Guard Alone” project, which aims to improve mental health support for security professionals.

The organisation has stated that Blackwood’s appointment also marks a step forward for representation within the sector.

Blackwood commented: “I’m proud to be in a position where I can show others that these roles are achievable.

“It’s important that people coming into the industry can see themselves reflected at every level.”

“People-first leadership”

Anne Marie Chebib, Chair of UKCMA stated: “Daniel’s appointment is a moment I’m truly delighted to celebrate.

“He brings the perfect blend of genuine warmth, deep frontline experience and thoughtful, people‑first leadership.

Having worked closely with Daniel, I’ve seen the integrity, passion and lived experience he brings to this sector.

“His commitment to raising standards and supporting those on the ground makes him exactly the kind of voice our industry needs.

“His appointment is not only well‑deserved, but also exactly what the industry needs right now.

“I couldn’t be happier to see him stepping into this role.”

Raising standards and supporting people

Alongside his industry work, Blackwood reportedly remains committed to mentoring and community engagement, including his role as a Volunteer Cadet Leader with the British Transport Police and working closely with schools and colleges, mentoring and offering guidance to young people.

Blackwood finalised: “Everything we do comes back to one goal – making sure people go home safely.

“If we can raise standards and support our people, we’re doing our job properly.”
