Video surveillance panel discusses analytics, AI and deep learning at IFSEC Connect 2021

The first day of IFSEC Connect 2021- which took place on 1 June – featured industry experts discussing the future of video surveillance and Tech Talk sessions from ONVIF, Axis Communications and Cisco Meraki.

Vendors provided attendees with exclusive demonstrations on their latest solutions: ONVIF explained more about how it was driving interoperability for IP-based physical security products; Axis Communications provided an overview of its AXIS Camera Station Secure Entry, an end-to-end solution said to unify physical access control and video surveillance in one platform and Cisco Meraki provided a comprehensive explanation of its cloud-based video solution.

A panel discussion on the future of video surveillance was the main event later in the day. Participants included: Fraser Sampson, Biometrics & Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Home Office; Ben Linklater, Chairman, BSIA Video Surveillance Systems & Sales Director, Optex; Alex Carmichael, Chief Executive, SSAIB; Oliver Philippou, Research Manager, Physical Security Technologies, Omdia; Leonid Levit, Chairman, ONVIF Steering Committee, ONVIF.

The panel discussed several themes, including how AI, deep learning and video analytics has developed to become increasingly useful for security professionals and how analytic applications have been repurposed during the COVID-19 pandemic to support in ensuring improved health and safety practices.

The discussion also covered topics such as AFR (Automated Facial Recognition), the growing relevance of integrated physical security systems and cybersecurity best practice for video surveillance devices.
