Wavesight has secured a contract with Covansys Tech to secure a leading UAW quarrying and mining company with over 4.5 billion tonnes of reserves.
The company has embarked on a its digital transformation journey with the goal of enabling reliable, site-wide wireless connectivity, powering seamless IoT integration and smart operations.
The client is one of the world’s largest mining and quarrying firms, headquartered in the UAE and it operates multiple remote sites with high production volume and custom mineral dispatch.
Wavesight, in partnership with Covansys Technologies, will deliver a wireless network to support secure, high-speed data for mission-critical processes across multiple quarries.
The challenge the client is facing is that mining sites span several kilometres, with operational zones beyond easy reach of wired infrastructure.
Another issue is the need to fill long-distance connectivity gaps. The client highlighted that it needs to be able to connect to a remote site over four kilometres to a main fibre termination point that is around eight kilometres away.
Finally, the client addressed the need for IoT and device enablement. The client needs seamless and secure wireless coverage to support large-scale deployment of IoT devices for monitoring, safety and automation.
Wavesight deployed a number of wireless solutions to the mining and quarrying firm, including:
Wavesight highlighted that the mining and quarrying company will see a noticeable range of results and benefits from deploying the solutions.
The mining site now has dependable Wi-Fi for all staff, vehicles and IoT devices across a vast, previously unconnected area.
Wavesight has incorporated real-time data from sensors, equipment and environmental monitoring that is now accessible company-wide, supporting smarter, safer operations.
The site now has high throughput and low latency with up to 500 Mbps sustained speed using Firefly PtP radios that ensures even data-intensive applications can run reliably at distance.
Since the deployment, the company said that the site has improved communications, predictive maintenance and instant alerts have streamlined workflows and heightened on-site safety.
Finally, Wavestore highlighted the introduction of 24/7 power, which is essential across the quarry where no power source is available.
According to Wavesight, the client selected both Wavesight and Covansys due to the companies industrial grade solutions, the trusted integration partner and the future-proof infrastructure.
Wavesight’s industrial-grade solutions such as Dragonfly (Wi-Fi 6 mesh) and Firefly (PtP radios) are said to be proven for harsh outdoor, large-scale deployments.
Wavesight said that its trusted partner, Covansys, can provide expertise to ensure tailored design, flawless implementation and smooth operation on-site.
As the company begins its digital transformation, the introduction of Wavesight’s future-proof infrastructure means that the wireless backbone is built for expansion, supporting more IoT, real-time video and automation as the client’s needs grow.
